A Look at Fluffy Favourite Slots Sites
The term “classic” is a much overused term when referring to online slots titles. For many games, it really seems to mean “old and rubbish”. For others, the games are good, but are so new that it is a bit like calling the latest boy band’s new tune a “classic”: it’s possible, but a bit unlikely and too early to tell in any case. Games need a bit of history and maturity to be truly judged. But in the case of Fluffy Favourites, “classic” is almost certainly a fair assessment, because this long standing title truly is an iconic game.
For a start, it really does have the necessary vintage. The game was first released back in 2006, which certainly is relatively early by online slot standards. Online gaming was still fresh and new and definitely nowhere near as widely available as it is today. Fluffy Favourites was one of Australian games developer Eyecon’s first titles, following hot on the heels of their Egyptian themed debut Temple of Isis. It was featured on just about every self-respecting online bingo and casino site at the time, and has remained an industry favourite ever since.
In fact fluffy favourites casino sites have been so popular, that while the original title continues to be one of the most regularly played games around, it has been followed by a sequel – Fluffy Too, and progressive jackpot versions as well.
All varieties of the game are unashamedly aimed at the female audience. I say unashamedly because in these days of political correctness, many titles are marketed with at least the pretence of being unisex and targetted at either (or any) gender. But this pink and pastel shaded fluffy toy themed game is even described by its designers as “well-liked amongst our female players”.
Back in 2006, smartphones were considerably less advanced than today. With your average Nokia struggling to cope with Snake, let alone the graphics necessary to run a five reel slot, the original game was for PC and Mac only. Needless to say, Eyecon have been hard at work in subsequent years and all versions of Fluffy Favourites can now be played on any kind of device. In fact, the relatively simple game play of this basically drawn theme makes it particularly phone friendly. This means that today, the majority of Fluffy spins are played on mobile rather than desktop.
Fluffy Favourites – The Original Game Review
The original Fluffy Favourites is based on the traditional amusement arcade or fairground game, where you insert a coin into a machine to earn the right to try to pick up a prize with some mechanical grabbers. These usually consist of some nice fluffy soft toys, plus maybe one really high value item as a lure. The catch (there always is a catch) is that the grabbers are the flimsiest in the world, and the control mechanism is always jerky, so nine times out of ten, you end up with nothing. But it’s all part of the fun of the fair…
Fluffy Favourites is much more generous – the grabbers are much more reliable and reward you with some exceptionally generous bonuses. There are a maximum of 25 possible winning lines in the main game, and with a Return to Player rate (RTP) of over 95%, it’s much more of a fair proposition that some of those end of the pier attractions.
The relatively basic graphics do indeed give a fair indication of this game’s vintage. The reels are a plain lime green, displaying soft toy animals such as a Giraffe, a Lion, a Turtle, a Dragon and a Monkey. The purple Hippo is responsible for the top line win: get all five on your winning line to win a decent 5,000 x your original stake. The integrity of the fluffy theme is maintained by the lack of any of those pesky traditional high playing card values. The sound effects are very basic, reminiscent of an old Atari or Nintendo console game.
The pink Elephant is both a Wild and a Scatter: it can substitute for all the other reel symbols apart from the mechanical Grabber to increase your chances of getting a line win. Any prize won which includes the pink Elephant in the triggering combination is doubled. Plus you are rewarded with a bit of an elephant dance.
The Elephant can also trigger a free spin round. Get three or more anywhere on your reels to launch at least fifteen free games. Get four Scatters to earn twenty free spins, while a maximum five will result in a most generous twenty five free spins. All prizes won during your free session are tripled. Not only that, but you can re-trigger more free games just by achieving more Scatter wins during the session.
Then there is the Bonus Feature. This is achieved by getting three or more of the mechanical Grabber symbols anywhere on your reels. You are then awarded one “grab” for each of the Grabbers in the triggering combination. These can result in some juicy prizes (just like the real thing!), including a prize multiple of 100x your original bet.
The game offers lots of smaller line wins, so it always seems like there is something going on, and many players will enjoy the traditional and nostalgic thrills of the Bonus Game grab.
The original game has maintained its popularity throughout subsequent years: so much so that around a decade after its release, Eyecon delivered a sequel…
Fluffy Too
With a similar expected Return to Player rate as its older sister, Fluffy Too delivered a significant upgrade in graphics. The new look gives this version a far more contemporary feel. This time, the fluffy animals are at a seaside funfair. The reel characters are much the same, but better drawn, while the reels themselves have switched from light green to creamy white.
The features too are largely unchanged. The pink Elephant dances a little more: instead of a cute little wiggle, it’s now more of a full-on twerk. But it remains the Wild and offers the same amount of free spins when in Scatter mode. The only real difference in this version is that the original “Grabber” Bonus Game is replaced by the Coin Pusher. This is, of course, a different but equally traditional seaside amusement arcade game. In the Fluffy Too version, you need at least need three of the Gold Coins anywhere on your reels to trigger the Bonus Feature, where yet again you can earn bonus prizes of up to 100 x your original bet.
The improved and modernised graphics do make the game look a little more up to date, but in truth this is a modernisation that few players demanded. Indeed, it is the original game which remains the popular favourite, in much the same way that many film goers prefer the original classic movie to the modern re-make: Godzilla and The Italian Job come immediately to mind.
Both versions of Fluffy Favourites can be found in progressive jackpot form. The expected RTP is reduced to just a little below 90%, with an additional 3% of players’ stakes added to the progressive prize fund. This fund starts from a minimum level (set by the site / network you are playing on) and rises until it is won, before being re-set to the minimum once again.
The family of Fluffy Favourite slots sites remains a popular option for slot players everywhere to this day. Sometimes though, the familiar old sayings remain true: the original is the best.
